BCPG Celebrates Official Commercial Operation of Monsoon Wind Power Project, Delivering Clean Cross-Border Energy

BCPG Public Company Limited (SET: BCPG) announced that the 600-MW Monsoon Wind Power Project, the largest onshore wind farm in Southeast Asia, has officially achieved its Commercial Operation Date (COD). The project is the first wind power plant in Lao PDR and the first in Asia to deliver clean electricity across borders, successfully transmitting renewable power from Laos to Vietnam’s national grid.

Mr. Rawee Boonsinsukh, President and CEO of BCPG, said the company holds approximately a 48% stake in the 600-MW Monsoon Wind Power Project in Sekong and Attapeu, Lao PDR. On August 22, the project began commercial operation, delivering renewable electricity from Laos to Vietnam Electricity (EVN). “This milestone marks a major step for clean energy in ASEAN and underscores BCPG’s vision to expand renewable growth across the region. We are proud to have supported the Monsoon Project throughout its development and to see it operating as Asia’s first cross-border wind power project,” Mr. Rawee said.

He further added, “For BCPG, the Monsoon Project strengthens our renewable energy footprint in ASEAN. Following our hydropower project in Lao PDR, which began exporting electricity to Vietnam in mid-2023, and our ongoing acquisition of another wind power project in Vietnam, this achievement underscores our commitment not only to building a strong and sustainable business but also to creating value for local communities, protecting the environment, and reducing carbon emissions. Together, we are helping to drive the region toward a low-carbon society and a more sustainable future.”

The Monsoon Wind Power Project is the largest onshore wind farm in Southeast Asia, comprising 133 turbines with a total investment of over USD 950 million, supported by leading global financial institutions. Electricity generated from the project is transmitted through a 27-kilometer high-voltage transmission line to Vietnam Electricity (EVN) under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement. Over its operating life, the project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 32.5 million tons.
