Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) stated that the government has approved 13 large solar panel projects that can generate a total energy of 1,975 MW.
The ministry also added that one of those projects is a floating solar project, capable of generating 200 MW, and can be considered as the nation’s largest development project. The scheduled COD is planned for 2027 and 2028.
Malaysia’s Energy Commission had held a bidding for the fifth phase of the large solar panel project in late January, seeking developers to supply 2,000 MW of solar energy. Although the commission did not disclose which company won the bidding, it stated that since the launch of the large solar panel project in 2016, 4,623 MW of clean energy has been approved.
PETRA is confident that the operation of the project’s new phase would advance Malaysia’s energy transition and support the goal of increasing the renewable energy ratio in the national power system to 70% by 2050.
