Citi Foundation Pledges $200,000 in Flood Relief Efforts for Children in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Sri Lanka

Citi Foundation has pledged USD $200,000 to Save the Children to support immediate humanitarian relief and recovery efforts following the devastating floods from heavy monsoon rains and tropical cyclones in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Sri Lanka that have affected tens of thousands of children and families. This commitment will help to provide critical assistance to affected communities, including emergency supplies, shelter, and child protection services.

Brandee McHale, Head of Community Investing and Development at Citi and President of the Citi Foundation, said that “Our thoughts are with the people of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Sri Lanka as they cope with the aftermath of these severe floods. Citi Foundation is committed to supporting communities in times of crisis, and we believe our partnership with Save the Children will deliver essential aid and foster resilience among affected populations, especially children.”

Save the Children has extensive experience in disaster relief and recovery, working to ensure children’s safety, health, and education in emergencies. The leading child rights organisation has been working in Thailand since 1979 and provided non-food items in the south as well as life jackets for children. Save the Children Thailand created safe spaces for children in the evacuation centres where they can play and learn, as well as delivering essential aid for flood affected families, including baby kits, children’s kits, and dignity kits with essential hygiene items.

Further demonstrating its commitment to local communities, Citi Foundation acknowledges the swift action of the Bangkok Community Help Foundation. A recipient of the Citi Foundation’s 2024 Global Innovation Challenge, the Bangkok Community Help Foundation has also mobilized its resources to provide direct support to the community in Hat Yai, a region significantly impacted by the flooding. Their on-the-ground efforts underscore the importance of local partnerships in effective disaster response.
