President Donald Trump confirmed on Wednesday that discussions involving Israel and Lebanon are set to begin Thursday. The announcement comes as diplomacy intensifies following attempts to reduce conflict in the region.
According to a senior U.S. official, President Trump previously expressed openness to an end to hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, the official clarified that Lebanon is not part of ongoing U.S. peace negotiations with Iran and noted that Washington has not proposed Lebanon’s participation in those talks.
Iran, meanwhile, has asserted that its ceasefire agreement with the United States extends to Lebanon and has accused Israel of violating the arrangement by attacking the nation. In his remarks on Wednesday, President Trump indicated that the dispute with Iran might be moving toward resolution, highlighting that Tehran is reportedly eager to negotiate a deal.
Diplomatic sources suggest that both the U.S. and Iran are exploring the possibility of prolonging their current ceasefire for at least another two weeks, providing additional time for negotiations. Both sides have also reportedly consented to a second round of discussions.
