US and Iran Exchange Strikes Amid Ongoing War Negotiations

Military tensions escalated over the weekend as the United States targeted Iranian military positions, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced on Monday that it had retaliated by attacking a U.S. air base. These incidents mark the latest back-and-forth amid efforts to negotiate an end to the conflict that began three months ago.

According to U.S. Central Command, American forces launched strikes on military locations along Iran’s Gulf coast in response to aggressive maneuvers, including the downing of a U.S. MQ-1 drone over international waters. Central Command communicated this justification through a statement on social media.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responded by stating it had aimed at a U.S. air base following the American assault on southern Iran, though it did not specify the exact location of the base in its announcement.

Meanwhile, air defense systems in Kuwait, where the U.S. has a significant military presence, were activated on Monday to intercept incoming missiles and drones. The state news agency KUNA reported that warning sirens sounded throughout Kuwait, though no further details were provided.

The armed conflict, initiated by the United States and Israel on February 28, has resulted in significant casualties, most of them in Iran and Lebanon. The fighting has also contributed to economic strain worldwide, largely attributed to higher energy prices following Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
