Thai Finance Minister Highlights Positive Tone in US Trade Negotiation

On Friday, Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Pichai Chunhavajira, announced a brief summary of his visit to the United States for trade negotiations with Washington.

The minister noted that he had met with key government and private sector representatives from the U.S., emphasizing that American companies have maintained a long-standing and significant investment presence in Thailand and have expressed a clear intention to continue operating in the country.

During the discussions, he also met with U.S. agricultural officials, who acknowledged the impact recent challenges have had on the United States and committed to considering these factors in future deliberations.

For Thailand, the meetings were significant at a policy level and included high-level talks with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer and other senior officials. The United States reiterated its confidence in Thailand as a longstanding economic ally, highlighting the mutual benefits both countries have enjoyed throughout the partnership.

Washington also expressed appreciation for Thailand’s willingness to engage in discussions. Thai representatives will take the feedback received and use it to refine and develop updated proposals.

Pichai stated that Thai authorities have a clear understanding of the United States’ expectations, which will guide subsequent actions and ongoing cooperation between the two nations.

As a result, the Finance minister reiterated Thailand’s commitment to securing a stable, practical, and sustainable agreement that delivers mutual benefits. While negotiations have yet to yield a final outcome, Thai officials will continue working toward a resolution with the U.S.
