Thailand’s SET-Listed Satellite Operator Wins 2 Licenses of Orbital Slots

The Office of The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has announced that Space Innovation Tech Company Limited, a subsidiary of Thaicom Public Company Limited (SET: THCOM), has won two bidding and National Telecom Company Limited (NT) has won one of satellite orbital slot licenses on Sunday.

There are three bidders participating in the auction, including Space Innovation Tech Company Limited, NT and Prompt Technical Services Company Limited.

The licenses were opened for a bidding of five packages with bidders only participating in second (380,017,850 baht), third (417,408,600) and fourth packages (9,076,200 baht). Meanwhile, there was no bid for the first and fifth package. Space Innovation Tech Company Limited won the second and third package while NT won the bidding for the fourth package.

Winners are required to pay for a license in three installments with 10% of the acquired value within the first 90 days of receiving the NBTC’s notification of winning the bid, then 40% in the fourth year, and 50% in the sixth year. 

Additionally, companies that won the license are obliged to launch a satellite into their orbital slots within three years. The license has 20 years of concessionaire.
