Asian Currencies Stand Firm against Dollar with Taiwan Leads Gains

Most of Asian currencies were up against the U.S. dollar in morning trading on Tuesday, with the Taiwan dollar posting the biggest move, strengthening 0.32% to 30.133 per dollar. The Korean won and yen also firmed, while the peso and baht edged weaker.

The baht slipped 0.02% to 31.775, while the peso eased 0.08% to 57.115. The rupiah weakened to 16,375 per dollar, down 0.18% from the previous session. The yuan and rupee were steady.

Year-to-date, the Taiwan dollar has gained 8.79% against the greenback, the baht 7.95% and the Singapore dollar 6.68%, while the rupee and rupiah are weaker.
