The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) has approved two major projects for Isuzu Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd., totaling over 15 billion baht. This investment is designed to modernize production facilities and align the company with global green manufacturing standards.
The funding focuses on integrating automation and robotics into critical manufacturing stages, such as chassis and body welding, painting, and final assembly. These upgrades aim to enhance precision, reduce operational costs, and ensure international competitiveness. Furthermore, Isuzu plans to upgrade its pickup trucks to meet Euro 6 emission standards, significantly reducing nitrogen oxide and particulate matter. To support environmental goals, the company will also install solar power systems to increase clean energy usage within its factories.
Since beginning Thai operations in 1963, Isuzu has increasingly centralized its global business in the country. It relocated pickup production from Japan in 2002 and its Research and Development (R&D) division in 2010, making Thailand Isuzu’s most important global hub for pickup trucks. Today, Isuzu operates two plants with an annual capacity of 385,000 units, employs over 6,000 workers, and sources more than 90% of its parts domestically.
This investment reflects the broader importance of the automotive industry to Thailand, which contributes over 10% of the national GDP and employs 800,000 people. In 2025, Thailand produced 1.45 million vehicles and exported 935,000 units, maintaining its role as a global export center. The BOI continues to support this sector by encouraging the adoption of digital technologies, human resource development, and the transition toward electric vehicles and eco-friendly manufacturing.
