The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has issued an official warning to investors, urging a cautious approach toward the Electronic Components Sector (ETRON) following a week of “excessive speculation” linked to the global boom in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Centers.
The SET revealed that it has been closely monitoring trading activity within the ETRON sector after observing a significant increase in both stock prices and trading volumes over the past week. While the exchange acknowledged that this growth was partly supported by strong operating results and ambitious investment plans from companies involved in AI and Data Center infrastructure—both locally and internationally—it warned that valuations for certain securities have decoupled from their underlying fundamentals.
According to the statement, several stocks in the sector are currently trading at elevated Price-to-Earnings (P/E) and Price-to-Book Value (P/BV) ratios. The SET noted that these metrics reflect speculative activity that lacks sufficient fundamental support.
In response to these abnormal trading conditions, the exchange has already implemented its Market Surveillance Measures for specific companies:
- CCET and SMT: Both are currently subject to Level 1 measures, requiring investors to trade using a “Cash Balance” account (100% cash payment required).
- DELTA: The electronics giant remains in a “Cooling Period” following previous restrictions. The SET warned that DELTA may face an escalation of measures if trading abnormalities persist or increase.
Tiered Regulatory Action The SET cautioned that if trading conditions remain inconsistent with fundamentals, it will not hesitate to escalate its regulatory response to Level 2 or Level 3.
The exchange’s surveillance framework includes:
- Level 1: Purchase by Cash Balance only and exclusion from credit limit calculations.
- Level 2: All Level 1 measures plus a prohibition on net settlement and a requirement to trade via the auction method only.
- Level 3: A full one-day suspension of trading, followed by the imposition of all Level 2 measures.
Investor Guidance The SET concluded its advisory by strongly urging all investors to carefully consider fundamental data and material corporate information before making any trading decisions in the ETRON sector.
A “Cooling Period” is currently in effect for stocks recently removed from surveillance; during this one-month window, any detected abnormality will result in the immediate reinstatement of measures or an escalation to a higher level.
