The United States military reported carrying out strikes in southern Iran focused on missile sites and vessels involved in mine deployment. This comes as President Donald Trump announced that diplomatic talks with Tehran are advancing just a few days prior, while warning military operations could resume if negotiations falter.
According to the U.S. Central Command, recent operations targeted boats suspected of laying mines and locations used to launch missiles. The stated objective was to safeguard American personnel from potential Iranian threats.
During the weekend, President Trump, addressing the situation on social media, indicated that discussions with Iran were making progress. However, he underscored that the U.S. would not hesitate to return to military measures if diplomatic efforts were unsuccessful.
On Monday, Trump also presented possible outcomes regarding Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium, contingent on the conclusion of a peace deal currently under negotiation. The U.S. has consistently pushed for Iran to dismantle its nuclear program and relinquish enriched uranium, an issue that has remained central in talks taking place in Qatar. The proposed agreement aims to resolve the conflict and gradually restore traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Since the onset of tensions earlier in the year, Trump has put forward the idea that the U.S. might take possession of Iran’s enriched uranium, colloquially referred to as “nuclear dust.” He has also referenced considering ground operations to secure the material.
