President Donald Trump announced a mutual cessation of hostilities between the Israeli military and the Hezbollah organization. This agreement, facilitated through both direct and indirect communication channels, seeks to prevent a full-scale ground invasion of the Lebanese capital’s outskirts while simultaneously ending cross-border rocket fire into Israel.
The White House confirmed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered a retreat of forces previously positioned for an assault on Beirut’s southern sectors. Simultaneously, Hezbollah leadership—communicating through high-level intermediaries including Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri—committed to ending all offensive operations against Israeli territory.
The urgency of the truce is underscored by the humanitarian crisis in the region, where roughly 1.2 million Lebanese citizens have been displaced since the conflict intensified on March 2.
Trump posted on Truth Social afterward, saying that he had talked with Netanyahu and confirming that there will be no troops going to Beirut.
