U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a diplomatic breakthrough with Tehran is scheduled to be signed on Sunday, potentially bringing an end to the three-month-old Middle East conflict.
In a social media post, Trump stated that the historic agreement would immediately reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz to international shipping and permanently block Iran’s path to a nuclear weapon.
According to the President, the emerging agreement stands in stark contrast to the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) brokered by the Obama administration. Trump asserted that “no money will exchange hands” under this new framework. Instead, the deal outlines a process to secure and destroy buried nuclear material under international verification once regional tensions subside.
“The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL,” Trump posted, while issuing a stern warning that the U.S. maintains an “ultimate alternative” should the diplomatic process falter.
While Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that an electronic signing is expected within 24 hours, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei urged caution, noting that the exact timing remains fluid due to logistical complexities. If finalized, the deal is expected to immediately ease global energy volatility ahead of next week’s G7 summit in France.
