OpenAI has rolled out ChatGPT Go, a budget-friendly subscription plan tailored specifically for India, marking its most affordable offering globally at just 399 rupees ($4.57) per month. The move aims to capture a larger share of India’s rapidly expanding internet population, now topping one billion users.
With ChatGPT Go, subscribers can send and receive up to ten times more messages and images than on the platform’s free plan, in addition to enjoying faster response times. Limits further expand with OpenAI’s pricier tiers.
OpenAI stated that this tier is designed to offer “greater access and value” to Indian users seeking more from the AI chatbot without committing to higher-tier plans. The company’s flagship ChatGPT Pro is set at 19,900 rupees monthly in India, while the intermediate ChatGPT Plus plan sits at 1,999 rupees.
The launch follows conversations earlier this year between CEO Sam Altman and India’s IT minister on building an affordable local AI ecosystem. According to Altman, India already represents OpenAI’s second-largest user base globally, after the United States, and could soon take the top spot.
