CPAXT Unites Partners to Drive Thailand Towards Zero Food Waste Society

  • CPAXT joins forces with partners to reduce food waste, turning challenges into opportunities, and advancing Thailand towards a zero food waste society.
  • Aims for Zero Food Waste to Landfill by 2030.
  • Continues with the “AXTRA Zero Waste: Less Waste, More Value” project, based on zero waste, maximum benefit, and a circular economy model.

CP AXTRA Public Company Limited (SET: CPAXT), operator of Makro and Lotus’s wholesale and retail businesses, reaffirmed its commitment to achieving zero food waste by 2030 and announced the collaborative intention with all sectors to lead Thailand towards a zero food waste society at “THAILAND ZERO FOOD WASTE FORUM 2025.” The event was held under the theme “Unite Forces, Reduce Waste, Add Value: Turning Challenges into Opportunities.”

CPAXT recognizes the significance of food waste issues affecting the environment and society, therefore collaborating with state agencies, the private sector, and academic institutions to creatively manage food waste. This approach transforms excess into new value while supporting the circular economy (circular economy) and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, aiming to achieve zero food waste by 2030 in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12.3.

CPAXT’s operations cover waste management throughout the supply chain, based on three main approaches:

  • Upstream: Cooperating with producers and farmers on responsible cultivation and developing efficient logistics to reduce upstream losses.
  • Midstream: Managing in-store inventory to minimize waste via an automated ordering system, shelf-life extending packaging, and proper temperature-controlled storage.
  • Downstream: Maximizing food waste utilization under the concept “zero waste, maximum benefit”. Food waste is converted into feed for BSF (Black Soldier Fly) protein insects, lowering animal feed costs and generating high-quality animal feed and organic fertilizer.

Ms. Siriporn Dechsingha, Chief Corporate Sustainability and Communication Officer at CPAXT, stated that the “AXTRA Zero Waste: Less Waste, More Value” project is more than just a concept. It’s active at every Makro and Lotus’s store. The company is committed to building Zero Waste Stores nationwide and expanding to surrounding communities through partnerships, to drive Thailand towards a waste-free society with sustainable growth.

In 2025, the project diverted over 15,000 tons of food waste to landfill, creating more than THB 76 million in economic value for Thai communities and farmers. This reflects the tangible potential of turning “waste” into “value” and furthering the circular economy, supporting farmers and SMEs by maximizing resource use, reducing carbon emissions along the supply chain, and promoting sustainable products.

Ms. Siriporn added that CPAXT believes systematic food waste management not only mitigates environmental impacts but also creates value for the economy, society, and people’s quality of life. The company continues its mission ‘Sustainability as the organization’s core root’ to grow securely and sustainably with society.
