On October 29, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul led a delegation to the Republic of Korea (South Korea) to attend the 32nd APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW), held from October 29 to November 1, 2025 in Gyeongju.
Anutin stated that this summit is a significant opportunity to meet leaders from various countries such as Canada, China, South Korea, Brunei, and possibly Japan. He anticipates meeting once again with U.S. President Donald Trump, as they are seated close to each other during the meeting, providing a chance to exchange views on a range of matters, especially trade and mutually beneficial cooperation.
At the meeting, Thailand and the United States will be seated consecutively. It is an excellent opportunity to discuss everything, particularly trade and exploring avenues for mutual support and cooperation, said the Prime Minister.
When asked about how to weigh the issue of mineral cooperation between China and the U.S., Anutin remarked that in Malaysia, he had met the Chinese Prime Minister and there were no particular issues. This time, he will meet President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China, and there are even more important matters at hand, such as proposing that China expedite the purchase of 500,000 tons of rice from Thailand, which would generate significant revenue for the country.
Regarding the crackdown on scammers, the Prime Minister stated that Thailand is prepared to host an international meeting to collaboratively prevent cybercrime, as this threat is now a global issue.
Today, the Indian ambassador to Thailand will meet the Chief of the Immigration Bureau to coordinate the repatriation of nearly 500 Indians whom Thai authorities have rescued from Mae Sot District, Tak Province. The Indian government is dispatching an aircraft to facilitate their return. This reflects international cooperation in the fight against transnational crime.
On the topic of Thai–Cambodian relations, Anutin said that the withdrawal of heavy weaponry is a sensitive issue, with initial discussions already underway in line with the joint declaration agreed upon by both countries. Last night, he spoke with the Chief of Defence Forces and Deputy Chief of Staff, who participated in the GBC meeting and drafted the declaration. All parties are working diligently to protect the nation’s interests.
