South Korea and Italy Forge Closer Ties on AI, Chips, and Critical Minerals

South Korea and Italy have agreed to strengthen collaboration in key technology sectors including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, aerospace, and critical mineral supply chains.

The announcement followed the meeting between South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during the summit at Cheong Wa Dae.

At the summit, both leaders outlined plans to advance joint efforts in high-priority industries. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between both countries’ industry representatives, aiming to encourage cooperation and information exchange on semiconductors—particularly in AI and other advanced fields.

In addition to expanding technology partnerships, Lee and Meloni agreed to work together to secure stable and sustainable sources of critical minerals. Both heads of state also reiterated a joint commitment to promoting security and peace in the Indo-Pacific, including full denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

According to the Blue House, Italy ranks among South Korea’s top four trading partners within the European Union, underlining the significance of their ongoing economic partnership.
