India Plans Ban Real Money Games to Combat Addictions

Today, the lower house of India’s parliament has proposed a bill that aims to restrict the promotion and operation of gaming apps that require users to pay money as an effort to combat addiction, money laundering and financial frauds that have been committed through these apps.

According to Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Minister of Electronics and IT, this Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025 will prohibit harmful online money gaming services, advertisements, and financial transactions related to them, but still support e-sports and online social games.

Although this bill is aimed to protect the country’s youth, it will affect the India gaming industry, worth about US$3.8 billion, and betting applications like Dream11, Games24X7, and Mobile Premier League. So far, the shares of Nazara Technologies Ltd, the company that owned about half of PokerBaazi’s stake, fell about 7%, the highest loss in seven months.
