Dr. Kongkrapan Intarajang, Chief Executive Officer and President of PTT Public Company Limited (SET: PTT), stated that the progress of the Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project is currently underway. PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (SET: PTTEP) is implementing the CCS pilot project at the Arthit Field, which can capture and reinject up to one million tons of carbon dioxide per year.
PTT Group is also studying the Eastern Thailand CCS Hub project in the upper Gulf of Thailand. This project has the potential to significantly contribute to the country’s greenhouse gas reduction targets, with an estimated carbon dioxide storage capacity of over 10 million tons per year. As a large-scale project, it requires investment partners, with negotiations currently underway with countries such as Singapore and South Korea. However, clarity on regulations and legislation from the government is still required.
As for the plan to use hydrogen as an alternative energy source to substitute for natural gas in the future, it may proceed more slowly than CCS, as hydrogen fuel still has high costs compared to CCS. However, PTT Group remains interested and is continuously studying this area, but will likely need partners to co-invest as well.
Additionally, PTT Group continues to focus on three main strategies: 1) Portfolio adjustment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, expecting a reduction of 20%; 2) Improvement of production processes in factories, gas separation plants, and oil refineries, with an expected reduction of 20-30%; 3) Reforestation of both terrestrial and mangrove forests to increase green areas and absorb greenhouse gases, expecting a reduction of 50%. These efforts align with the goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050.
Dr. Kongkrapan further stated that PTT Group recently organized the “Sustainability Spark by PTT Group 2026: Sparking the Future” event on January 16-17, 2026. This national sustainability collaboration platform brought together policy makers, leading experts, and business sectors from around the world to exchange knowledge and innovations for the practical design of a low-carbon economy and to ignite collaborative efforts to turn ideas into action.
The event was also honored by Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, who delivered a special keynote address titled “Thailand’s New Horizon: Strong and Sustainable Thailand amid Global Volatility and Climate Challenges.”
The event included: 1) Seminars over two days that drew on over 40 leaders and experts across various fields to share strategic perspectives for driving the industrial sector and Thailand toward sustainable future growth; 2) Exhibition booths showcasing PTT Group’s real operations focused on energy security and sustainable growth; 3) Spark Lab, a venue for sustainability exchanges between government, private sector, and the public, with nature learning through terrarium workshops;
4) Spark Hack, a platform for the younger generation to propose social and environmental innovation ideas for sustainable business opportunities; 5) Spark Market, a venture showcasing specially selected eco-friendly food and products from PTT Group and its partner network; and 6) Business Matching, a platform with unique opportunity to forge business growth for Thailand’s Sustainability Ecosystem, meeting with PTT Group entrepreneurs and four potential business partner groups in sustainability: Low Carbon Solutions, Circular & Clean Tech, Social Innovation, and Green Investment & ESG Funding.
